Education Ministry confirms temporary closure approved to protect students and staff
The Federal Government has directed the immediate closure of 47 Federal Unity Colleges across the country as insecurity around schools continues to worsen.
The decision comes in the wake of recent attacks in Kebbi and Niger States, where armed men invaded schools, abducted both students and staff, and killed at least one school official during the assaults.

In a circular issued on Friday, the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Binta Abdulkadir, confirmed that the Minister of State for Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, had authorised the temporary shutdown.
According to Abdulkadir, the ministry was left with no choice but to act swiftly following “heightened security concerns in some regions,” stressing that the welfare of learners and staff must remain the top priority.
She added that the affected schools have been instructed to comply immediately while the government works with security agencies to restore safety in the affected areas.
