The Federal Government has planned to disconnect 13 electricity companies from the national grid through the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Reports held the disconnection plan was due to failure of the affected companies to make remittances of ancillary services bills.
This would affect electricity consumers being served by the affected companies as they might experience blackouts.
It was said that the notice of disconnection has been served to the eleven affected electricity companies. They include:
-Abuja Electricity Distribution Company
-Benin Electricity Distribution Company
-Enugu Electricity Distribution Company
-Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company
-Ikeja Electric
-Jos Electricity Distribution Company
-Kaduna Electric
-Kano Electricity Distribution Company
-Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company
-APL Electric Company Aba
-Ajaokuta Steel Company- a special electricity customer.
The aforementioned defaulting electricity generating companies were Niger Delta Power Holding Company plants and Paras Energy.
TCN has advised defaulters to comply with the provisions of the Market Rules. This could be done by paying their outstanding invoices, posting adequate bank guarantees, and forwarding their active Power Purchase Agreements to the Market Operator.
