The federal government has commissioned 1 megawatt of clean energy to underserved communities in Rubochi and Ikwa, within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.
The project, supported by the Republic of Korea, features 900 kWp solar hybrid and 100 kWp facilities, designed to provide reliable electricity 24/7 to homes, schools, healthcare centers, small businesses, and commercial clusters.

Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, emphasized that distributed renewable energy is key to closing Nigeria’s electricity access gap.
He added that the initiative strengthens grid resilience, expands off-grid solutions, and fuels economic growth, job creation, and national development.
REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu noted that the intervention goes beyond megawatts installed. It also supports livelihoods, reduces emissions, and reinforces local ecosystems, marking a significant step in community-driven, clean energy deployment.
