The Federal Government has revealed the kick-off date of its earlier proposed students’ loan.

Yusuf Tanko Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, confirmed that the Student Loan Scheme is well underway and is set to begin in January 2024.

Recall the initiative, which was signed into law earlier in 2023, aims to provide financial support to Nigerian students pursuing higher education.

Sununu disclosed that
President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to its successful implementation.

He said on Thursday during an appearance on Arise TV:

“I want to tell you that we are on track (to begin in January 2024). The committee is working day in and day out.

“The whole thing is going to be online, not through physical access. A website that will make for easy access is being developed.

“We want trust in governance and trust must have a timeline. So it may take from January 1st to January 31st, but as much as possible, we will ensure that by the 31st of January, students can access it.”

Tinubu had stated the importance of the program in enhancing access to education and promoting learning in Nigeria during the 29th Nigeria Economic Summit held in Abuja on Monday, October 23.
