Officials warn disruption could cripple economy and national security.
The FG has waded into the escalating face-off between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and Dangote Refinery, summoning both parties to an emergency meeting today in Abuja.
The intervention came barely 24 hours after PENGASSAN ordered its members to down tools in protest over the reported sack of no fewer than 800 oil workers at Dangote Refinery, a move the union described as “union busting.”

Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr Maigari Dingyadi, said the meeting would hold at the Ministry’s headquarters and urged the union to suspend its strike plans.

According to the Minister, “The Ministry of Labour and Employment through the Director of Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations has extended invitations to the leadership of PENGASSAN and the management of Dangote Refinery to attend a conciliation meeting in my office on Monday.”
He warned that the planned strike could trigger heavy revenue losses for the country, worsen hardship for Nigerians, and compromise national security.
Spokesperson of the Ministry, Mrs Patience Onuobia, reinforced the appeal, stressing the strategic importance of the petroleum sector.
The outcome of today’s meeting will determine whether Nigeria plunges into a full-scale energy disruption or secures a fragile truce.
