- FG orders immediate halt to enforcement of sachet alcohol ban
- Decision follows intervention by House of Representatives committee
- NAFDAC actions placed on hold pending further consultations
- Final directive to be issued by the SGF after review
The Federal Government has suspended the enforcement of the proposed NAFDAC sachet alcohol ban, directing all relevant agencies to halt any action on the matter pending further review. The decision was announced by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) following an intervention by the House of Representatives.
According to a statement from the OSGF, the directive followed an official letter from the House of Representatives Committee on Food and Drugs Administration and Control, dated November 13, 2025. The letter referenced existing resolutions of the National Assembly concerning the proposed ban by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The correspondence, signed by the committee’s Deputy Chairman, Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, raised concerns over the timing, economic implications, and legislative position on the policy.
“The matter is currently under review in line with the coordinating role of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement said.

As a result, the OSGF directed that all decisions, enforcement actions, or implementation steps connected to the sachet alcohol ban must be put on hold until consultations are concluded and a final decision is issued.
The office further warned that any action taken by NAFDAC or any other agency without proper clearance should be regarded as null and void.
It assured Nigerians that legislative resolutions, public health concerns, economic factors, and national interest considerations are being carefully examined to reach a balanced outcome.
The OSGF added that the public would be duly informed once a final position on the proposed ban is reached.
“All enforcement actions related to the proposed sachet alcohol ban are to be suspended pending the conclusion of consultations and issuance of a final directive,” the OSGF stated.
