FG Suspends Max Air Operations For Three Months Over Safety Concerns

FG has suspended the operations of Max Air for three months following a tyre burst incident involving one of its aircraft in Kano.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, resulted in the temporary shutdown of the runway at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

NCAA has announced that it will conduct a thorough safety and economic audit on Max Air during the suspension period.
The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has announced the suspension of operations by Max Air for a period of three months, effective midnight, January 31, 2025.
This decision follows a tyre burst incident involving a Max Air B734 aircraft with registration marks 5N-MBD, which occurred on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.
According to the NCAA, the incident resulted in the temporary shutdown of the runway, but all 53 passengers on board were evacuated unhurt.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated an investigation into the occurrence, and the NCAA has pledged to provide the required support.
Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, stated, “It must be stated that the specific cause(s) of this incident can only be established after the NSIB has conducted its investigation.”

He added, “However, as a result of this incident, Max Air is suspending its domestic flight operations for a period of three months…to allow for an internal appraisal of its operations by its management.”
During the suspension period, the NCAA will conduct a thorough safety and economic audit on Max Air.
“The safety audit will entail a re-inspection of Max Air’s organization, procedures, personnel and aircraft…while the economic audit will critically examine the financial health of the airline to guarantee its capability to sustain safe flight operations,” Achimugu explained.
The NCAA has appealed for patience and understanding from passengers, stating that the safety and well-being of passengers is paramount.
The resumption of Max Air’s domestic flight operations will be predicated on the satisfactory completion of the audit.
FG Approves Construction Of 10,000 Bpd Refinery In Delta State
The Nigerian Federal Government has approved the construction of a 10,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery in Delta State.
The licence was granted to MRO Energy Limited by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
