FG Targets 10,000MW Power Transmission Capacity by 2026

  • The Federal Government plans to increase its power transmission capacity from 8,500 megawatts to 10,000MW by 2026.

  • The Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Sule Abdulaziz, disclosed this during the Meet-the-Press Programme at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

  • Abdulaziz also revealed that Nigeria recorded its highest-ever peak power generation of 5,801.84MW on March 4, 2025.

 

The Federal Government has announced plans to increase its power transmission capacity from 8,500 megawatts to 10,000MW by 2026.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Sule Abdulaziz, disclosed this during the Meet-the-Press Programme at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.

Abdulaziz revealed that Nigeria recorded its highest-ever peak power generation of 5,801.84MW on March 4, 2025, which was transmitted to distribution load centers nationwide.

He noted that with the current transmission evacuation capacity at 8,500MW, TCN is on track to achieve 10,000MW in less than two years.

The TCN boss also highlighted the progress made in strengthening grid reliability, including the development of the Generation Load Drop Sensitivity system.

He explained, “Our progress is also evident in the 76.47 per cent reduction in grid disturbances over the past five years.”

Abdulaziz further noted that the ongoing SCADA project, currently 69 per cent completed, will enhance real-time monitoring and grid efficiency upon completion.

FG Moves to Pay N7.7trillion Fuel Subsidy Debts To NNPCL

The Nigerian government has confirmed its plan to settle a fuel subsidy debt of N7.74 trillion owed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The debt accumulated as an exchange rate differential for the importation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from June 2023 to September 2024.
