FG to Commence Oil Drilling In Northern Nigeria

Nigeria’s Federal Government is set to commence oil drilling in the northern part of the country for the first time.

According to the Minister of Petroleum for State, Timopre Sylva, the first oil drilling process will be overseen by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, 22nd November and will be attended by Mr. President himself together with most of his cabinet members including the Minister of State for Petroleum,” Timipre Sylva said.

President Buhari, who doubles as the Minister of Petroluem will supervise the process on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at fields located in Bauchi and Gombe States.

The ground-breaking ceremony of the Kolmani OPLs 809 and 810 at the Kolmani field site in Bauchi and Gombe States will be the first oil drilling in Northern Nigeria following the discovery of oil in large quantities in the region.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that incumbent administration and the NNPC launched a search for crude oil in the Northern parts of the country since its inception in 2015.

The move led to the discovery of oil in commercial quantity in Bauchi, Gombe, Borno and Niger States with experts predicting more of such discoveries in other states in the North.

The oil field to be drilled are set to be developed by Sterling Global Oil, New Nigeria Development Commission (NNDC) and NNPC Limited.

The exploration of the Kolmani OPLs 809 and 810 exploration site, Bauchi/Gombe States, will be the first Onshore Oil Field in Northern Nigeria.
