  • The Nigerian government will unveil three major cancer facilities by May 2025, according to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate.

  • The facilities, which will provide high-level cancer care, are part of six major cancer infrastructure and equipment investments approved by President Bola Tinubu.

  • The government has also flagged off 10 cancer diagnostic centers and upgraded 201 tertiary facilities with new equipment.

The federal government will unveil three major cancer facilities by May 2025, according to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, Pate said, “For the first time in Nigeria’s history, six major cancer infrastructure, and equipment investments were approved by Mr President early last year, three of them will be ready by May 2025.”

The facilities, which will provide high-level cancer care, are part of the government’s efforts to expand tertiary healthcare services in the country.

Pate noted that the government has also flagged off 10 cancer diagnostic centers and upgraded 201 tertiary facilities with new equipment, including Magnetic Resonance Imaging scans and Computed Tomography scans.

According to data from the Global Cancer Observatory, there were 127,763 new cancer cases and 79,542 deaths in 2022.

?Pate emphasized the need for expanded tertiary healthcare services, saying, “We are expanding the federal facilities, we need to do that.”
