The Federal Government has urged both Israel and Iran to exercise restraint and explore diplomatic solutions in light of the escalating conflict between the two nations.

Over the weekend, Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and explosive drones at Israel in retaliation for the killing of some of its top military personnel in Syria.

In an official statement, Nigeria’s foreign ministry stressed the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and urged both countries to consider the broader global commitment to maintaining peace and security.

The situation in the Middle East remains critical, and diplomatic efforts are ongoing to ease tensions and prevent further escalation.

During a United Nation (UN) Security Council meeting held on Sunday, UN Secretary-General, António Guterres called for a collective step back from the brink of conflict.

He implored all member states to actively engage with Israel and Iran to prevent further escalation of hostilities.

The recent missile attacks by Iran were in response to the killing of three commanders at its consulate in Syria on April 1.
