Nigeria’s first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has generously rewarded each of the Super Falcons players with a gift of N7.6 million ($10,000) in recognition of their remarkable achievements at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

During the competition, the Super Falcons displayed their prowess and determination, progressing to the Round of 16 before eventually succumbing to the Three Lionesses of England in a penalty shootout.

The team’s exceptional performance captured the attention of Oluremi Tinubu, who commended their unyielding spirit and strength.

In a statement conveyed through her spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady lavished praise upon the players, acknowledging their commendable representation of Nigeria on the global stage. 

She emphasized that the players’ skills were widely recognized and appreciated worldwide.

While the outcome on the field may not have favoured Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu reminded the players that true victory transcends mere scores.

She lauded their unity and determination as genuine markers of success, which serve as inspirations for aspiring youth, especially young girls who see their dreams mirrored in the team.

Amidst heartfelt applause, the First Lady conveyed her pride and a warm welcome to the players upon their return home. 

She extended her good wishes to other players who have also headed back to their respective bases, acknowledging the team’s dedicated efforts and assuring them of continuous support.

NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the gracious reception and affirmed the players’ commitment to delivering exemplary representation for the country.

Super Falcon’s captain, Onome Ebi, shared the tremendous hard work and relentless dedication that went into their pursuit of bringing the coveted FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy to Nigeria.

Ebi pledged that the team would continue to persistently strive for excellence and uphold the nation’s pride on the football field.

The First Lady’s warm reception was graced by the presence of Hajia Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, and Mrs. Ekaette Akpabio, the wife of the Senate President, along with Oluremi Tinubu.
