Nigeria’s interim coach, Finidi George, has provided some insight into his potential starting lineup for the upcoming international friendly against West African rivals, Ghana, scheduled for Friday evening at Stade de Marrakech, Morocco.
Ahead of the highly anticipated clash, the coach hinted at who might don the captain’s armband in the absence of regular skipper Ahmed Musa, who was not included in the squad for the match, along with Deputy captain William Troost-Ekong.
Finidi George disclosed that the responsibility of leading the team could fall to either Kelechi Iheanacho or Wilfred Ndidi, both of whom ply their trade at Leicester City. Ndidi has previously captained the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe.

The interim coach addressed questions about the team’s captaincy during his post-match press conference, shedding light on the potential leadership choices for the upcoming game.
Finidi said, “Ndidi is there or Kelechi? Definitely, we want to win it”
He continued, “Tactics, we are not changing much, just add a few elements we think will help players with energy.
“We will be very, very tactical and see how we can win the ball as quickly as possible, that is what we will do tomorrow and I hope it is going to work.”
