Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed on Sunday following a fire outbreak at Shril-Balaj Industrial Limited, located in the Olopomeji area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The blaze, which occurred in the early hours of the day, ravaged the recycling section of the facility, where large quantities of disused tyres were stored. The fire was reported to the Oyo State Fire Service at about 7:07 am.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said in a statement made available to DAILY POST that the fire started due to a machine explosion within the facility.

“The fire incident was a result of the explosion of a running machine, which ignited nearby combustibles and set the section ablaze,” he explained.
Akinwande added that while the fire caused significant damage to the recycling section, firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the company.
“The fire affected the recycling section and disused tyres, whilst the fire service was able to save other sections of the company from the devastating fire,” he stated.
Authorities have not reported any casualties, and investigations are ongoing to assess the full extent of the damage and prevent future occurrences.
