Fire was potted at the ‘A’ wing of the NPA (Nigerian Ports Authority) headquarters in the afternoon of Wednesday, September 22,2021.
General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, Mr Olaseni Alakija confirmed the incident to newsmen via a statement.
He disclosed that the incident was suspected to have been sparked by an electrical surge.

The fire outbreak borne upon three offices on the 6th floor of the Broad Street wing of NPA headquarters.
Though, two desktops, tables, chairs and other furniture were burnt down, no sensitive documents were lost as Alakija noted.
He also added that normalcy had been restored and operations had continued without any disruption.

Alakija said,“Operatives of the NPA Fire Service Department immediately mobilised to the scene and promptly contained the fire.”
“In line with safety protocols, the affected floor has since been cordoned off and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the actual cause of the fire.”
“The fire affected one office where two desktops, tables, chairs and other furniture were lost. Two other adjoining offices were affected by smoke and soot.”
Alakija disclosed that the management of NPA expressed its gratitude for the fact that the firemen turned up immediately.
The management also commended the firemen’s expertise in the same way it lauded the efforts of personnel of the NPA security department.
