A residential building in Oyo town, Oyo State, was gutted by fire on Thursday morning.
The building, located at Olugbile House in the Iyalamu area, caught fire around 5:00 a.m., destroying household items and properties worth millions of naira. Thankfully, no lives were lost in the incident.

Confirming the fire, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, told DAILY POST that fire officers were immediately deployed to the scene.
He explained the cause of the fire, saying, “The fire was as a result of a lighted cigarette stub left unattended to by one of the occupants of the building. The cigarette ignited combustible materials and set the house ablaze.”
Akinwande also detailed the response of the fire service: “Upon arrival at the scene of incident, our officers met two (2) rooms out of eight (8) rooms of an ancient residential building on fire. They quickly swung into action and the fire was subdued and restricted from spreading beyond the two rooms. The fire was completely extinguished, the occupants, sympathizers and onlookers were sensitized on fire prevention, particularly the importance of having fire extinguishers at every household in the state.”
He encouraged residents to report fire incidents promptly and provide correct addresses, adding, “Report fire incident and give correct address, contact our emergency lines: 08067439223 and 08054353501 or 615.”
