A fire broke out on board a cargo vessel, CHANG MIN on Friday evening while it was docked at the ENL Terminal in Apapa Port, Lagos, triggering a swift multi-agency emergency response.
The incident occurred around 5:55 p.m. during offloading operations and affected the second section of the vessel’s cargo hold. According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the vessel was transporting highly flammable materials, including CNG-powered trucks, wooden goods, and tyres.

Emergency responders, including LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Nigerian Ports Authority Fire Unit, and ENL Consortium Ltd., promptly arrived at the scene.

Working closely with the vessel’s crew, they sealed off the affected section to limit oxygen flow and contain the flames.
This was followed by a coordinated firefighting operation, which allowed responders to safely re-enter the compartment and fully extinguish the fire.
“There were no casualties and no injuries were sustained to anyone as all seafarers on board have been accounted for,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
He confirmed that the fire had been completely extinguished and recovery efforts concluded, though the exact cause remains unknown.
“Preliminary investigations conducted by Emergency responders at the scene revealed that the fire was observed at the point of unloading and the cause is yet to be ascertained at time of report,” he added.

A magistrate court in Kano has found a local tailor, Mubarak Yusuf, guilty of environmental pollution caused by excessive noise from his sewing machine and generator, which had become a disturbance to residents in the area.
The case was filed by the Kano State Ministry of Environment following multiple complaints from locals who said the noise, especially during nighttime, disrupted their rest and peace.
