Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, said the fire appeared to have started from the rear section of the main building, an area heavily stocked with cardboard materials used for recycling. She suggested negligence as the likely cause.
Preliminary assessments suggest that a substantial portion of the three-acre facility was affected by the fire.
However, Adeseye confirmed that no casualties had been recorded.
“No casualties have been reported so far,” she stated. “The situation is under control, though damping down operations are still ongoing.”
Authorities are continuing to evaluate the extent of the damage and investigate the exact cause of the fire.
