A major fire broke out on Monday afternoon at a recycling facility operated by Jincheng Company, located at 11B Eric Moore Road in Surulere, Lagos, causing extensive damage to the site.

The blaze, which was reported around 12:15 p.m., triggered a swift response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters from the Sari-Iganmu station were first on the scene, with additional support later arriving from the Ajegunle Fire Crew due to the scale of the incident.

Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, said the fire appeared to have started from the rear section of the main building, an area heavily stocked with cardboard materials used for recycling. She suggested negligence as the likely cause.

Preliminary assessments suggest that a substantial portion of the three-acre facility was affected by the fire.

However, Adeseye confirmed that no casualties had been recorded.

“No casualties have been reported so far,” she stated. “The situation is under control, though damping down operations are still ongoing.”

Authorities are continuing to evaluate the extent of the damage and investigate the exact cause of the fire.
