An early morning fire reportedly razed part of the female hostel of Bayelsa State Medical University (BMU) along the Imgbi Road.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the fire started around 6:40 am on Wednesday and was ignited by an electrical spark while a student was ironing his clothes.
When the inferno began to spread rapidly, the student reportedly sounded the alarm to warn other students and hastily evacuated to safety.
Officials from the Federal Fire Department and the Bayelsa State Fire Department rushed to the scene to deal with the emergency, and swift action was reportedly taken, preventing the fire from spreading to other rooms in the block.

Although, no casualties or physical injuries were reported among the students, the fire destroyed the personal belongings of the occupants of the damaged rooms.
