A devastating fire outbreak on Wednesday engulfed a three-storey building at a market in the Sabon Gari area of Kano State, leaving behind significant damage.
The inferno, which started around 11:40 a.m., rapidly spread through the structure, consuming property worth millions of naira, though the exact value is yet to be determined.
According to reports, Ado Haruna Muhammad, the spokesperson for the market, was the first to alert the Kano State Fire Service. Firefighters were quickly mobilized to the scene and began efforts to contain the blaze.

Speaking to journalists after the fire was extinguished, a market official, Alhaji Abdul Bashir Hussien, confirmed that approximately 20 shops were affected by the incident. Fortunately, no occupants were inside the shops at the time.
He expressed gratitude to the fire service personnel and the Divisional Police Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, who was present with his team throughout the operation to ensure the fire did not spread to other parts of the market.
Alhaji Hussien criticized the negligence of some traders, blaming their careless actions for endangering the safety of the market. He called for stricter safety measures to prevent future incidents.
While investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, Hussien thanked Allah for the swift containment of the incident, saying the damage could have been far worse.
