Five Dead, Others Missing As Boat Capsizes In Jigawa | Daily Report Nigeria

Five people have been confirmed dead after a boat capsized in Jigawa state.

Daily Report Nigeria confirms that the incident happened in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State at noon on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

The boat which was said to be conveying 20 passengers capsized while crossing the Gamoda River near Nahuce village.

 

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the spokesperson of the state police command, Lawan Shiisu Adam said a lot of people including policemen, local divers abd other good Samaritan rushed to tye scene.

“Regretfully, five of the passengers were found d@ad,” the PPRO said.

The victims have been identified as Abdurra’uf Mohd, 15; Suleman Ali, 20; Shafiu Mohd, 25; Ado Nafance, 75; and Alasan Mohd, 16 – all of Taura LGA.

Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining passengers.

 

Also reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State has expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the immediate families of the deceased and pray for the departed souls to find eternal peace,” he said.
