The South Americans went ahead in the 52nd minute through Kener Gonzalez, who struck on a swift counter-attack. The Flying Eagles kept pressing and were unlucky not to score earlier, with Daniel Daga, Suleiman Sani and Tahir Maigana all hitting the woodwork.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 86th minute when captain Daniel Bameyi converted from the penalty spot after a Colombian defender handled the ball inside the box. The Nigerian skipper calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to level the score.

The result means Colombia finished top of Group F with five points, the same as Norway, who took second place after drawing 1-1 with Saudi Arabia. Nigeria ended in third on four points but progressed as one of the best third-placed teams.
The Flying Eagles will now take on six-time winners Argentina in the round of 16 on October 8, a clash that promises to test their resilience on the world stage.
