FMC Shuts Down Children Ward After 2-Year-Old Girl Tests Positive For COVID-19

The Management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba Abeokuta, Ogun state, has shut down the centre Children Emergency Ward after a two-year-old girl tested positive for coronavirus.

While disclosing this, the FMC Head of Public Relations and Information, Segun Orisajo revealed that the girl was initially admitted into the facility on the account of breathlessness last week Sunday.

He also mentioned that the affected ward has been properly decontaminated according to protocols.

Initial diagnosis carried out on the patient revealed her persisted high temperature before she was isolated, she was thereafter screened for coronavirus while her treatment continued.

However, her test results which later came out proved positive for coronavirus.

Segun also assured on the safety of staffs and other patients as they were unduly exposed to the patient.

This brings the total number of active cases in the state to a figure of 646, with 361 recoveries and 15 recorded deaths.
