Food Prices Soar Following #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Protests

More Hardship For Citizens as Nigeria's Inflation Hits 29.9 Percent

In the wake of recent nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, the prices of cooking gas and food items have surged in Kaduna State.

A market survey conducted on Monday revealed a massive increase in the prices of essential food items such as rice, beans, yams, garri, and noodles.

The survey disclosed that the price of cooking gas has risen from N1,100 to N1,400 per kilogram, while a 50kg bag of foreign rice now costs between N86,000 and N90,000, up from N79,000.

Yam prices have also skyrocketed, with a tuber now selling for N7,000, up from N5,000.

Traders attributed the price hike to increased costs at depots and transportation challenges.

Some traders have stopped selling eggs in bits, opting to sell entire crates at N4,400. Indomie noodles now cost N7,700 per carton, up from N7,500.

According to the survey, residents are feeling the pinch, with many lamenting the 50 per cent price increase.

It was learnt that the economic hardship and low value of the naira have exacerbated the situation, making it difficult for people to afford basic food items.
