Former Barcelona Defender Dani Alves to Stand Trial Over Sexual Assault | Daily Report Nigeria

Dani Alves, the former Barcelona full-back, is facing trial over an alleged sexual assault in Barcelona in December of the previous year.

According to AFP, the veteran Brazilian defender will be tried on sexual assault charges in Spain, related to an incident that occurred in Barcelona in December of the preceding year.

In January, the Brazilian was detained by Spanish police after being arrested on suspicion of raping a young woman in the bathroom of the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona in December 2022.

This incident happened while he was on holiday in Spain following his participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Since then, he has been held in custody and denied bail due to authorities considering him a flight risk.

In June, Alves asserted that he has a “clear conscience” about the incident.

However, if found guilty of the offence, he could face up to 12 years in prison.

As of now, a trial date has not been set.

Dani Alves, now 40 years old, most recently played for Mexican side Club Universidad Nacional. 

Throughout his illustrious career, he won 127 caps for Brazil and represented clubs like Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus, accumulating an impressive 42 titles.
