- Ex-church member says Pastor Chris Okafor raped her as a teenage choir girl
- She alleges he impregnated her and abandoned the child
- Woman claims cleric later sexually abused their teenage daughter
- Lagos Police confirm investigation into multiple sexual assault allegations
Lagos-based cleric, Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Liberation City Church, has been accused by a former church member of raping her when she was 15 years old, coercing her into silence through spiritual threats, and years later sexually assaulting their daughter. The woman, identified as Ama, says she is breaking over 20 years of silence to seek justice and protect other potential victims.
Ama said her ordeal started in late 2004 at Pastor Okafor’s residence on Bashiru Street, Ojodu-Berger, Lagos. She had gone there to deliver snails sent by her mother as a church offering.

Days later, she said the pastor asked her to return.
“He said he was done with the snails and wanted to see me,” Ama recalled.
According to her, she was taken into the pastor’s bedroom under the guise of appreciation. Moments later, she said the situation turned violent.
“He locked the door, pushed me on the bed, and raped me. I was bleeding and crying. I didn’t even understand what had just happened,” she said.
Ama alleged that immediately after the assault, Pastor Okafor used his religious authority to manipulate and silence her.
“He told me the Holy Spirit said I was his wife. He warned me never to tell anyone or something bad would happen,” she said.
She described returning home confused, terrified, and emotionally broken.
Two months later, she discovered she was pregnant.
Ama claimed the pastor pressured her to terminate the pregnancy, offering money and warning that keeping it would destroy his image.

“He begged me to abort it. I refused. I was scared and young,” she said.
When her family eventually found out, she said Pastor Okafor admitted what happened and promised to marry her, a promise she said was never fulfilled.
She was later sent to the village, where she gave birth to a daughter, Precious.
Ama said years later, when she went to ask for help with their child’s school fees, the pastor assaulted her again.
“I remember him touching my shoulder. Then I went blank. When I came back to myself, my clothes were down and he was wiping himself,” she said.
Under family pressure, Ama later allowed her daughter to stay briefly with Pastor Okafor. She said the arrangement quickly collapsed.
According to Ama, her daughter later reported emotional neglect and sexual abuse.
“She told me her father was touching her the same way he touched me,” she said.
The alleged abuse reportedly happened between 2019 and early 2020, when the girl was about 14 years old.
Fearing psychological harm and disruption to her WAEC examinations, Ama said the family quietly removed the child.
Pastor Chris Okafor could not be reached directly for comment.
However, his lawyer, Ife Ajayi, said the cleric had earlier filed a complaint against Ama, describing her claims as malicious.
“Investigation has commenced, and she will be invited to present her evidence,” Ajayi said.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed that Pastor Okafor has been invited for questioning over allegations of rape and other serious sexual offences. Police assured protection for alleged victims and promised a thorough investigation.
In recent months, additional allegations involving the cleric have surfaced, including claims by actress Doris Ogala, social media critic VeryDarkMan, and Pastor Okafor’s ex-wife, Ms. Bessem, who accused him of domestic violence, serial infidelity, and child molestation; allegations denied by the cleric through his legal team.
