Former Defender Sol Bamba Dies at 39
Former Cardiff City and Leeds defender Sol Bamba has passed away at the age of 39.
Bamba died on Saturday while preparing for Adanaspor’s game. The Ivorian footballer was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in December 2020 but was believed to be in remission.
The Turkish club announced his death in a statement, saying: “Our Technical Director Souleymane Bamba, who fell ill before the Manisa Football Club match yesterday, was taken to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital and unfortunately lost his battle for life there. Our condolences to his family and our community.”

After retiring in 2022, Sol Bamba moved into coaching, starting as an assistant manager for Cardiff City, his former club, before joining Adanaspor as head coach this summer.
