Ali Sheriff, former governor of Borno State, has stated that he is running for the office of Chairman rather than the presidency ahead of the All Progressives Congress National Convention on February 26, 2022.

Ali Sheriff clarified this during an interactive session with correspondents on Friday in Abuja.

“Many insinuations are flying around; Ali Sheriff is not looking to be Chairman, he is looking to be a presidential candidate,” the former Governor said. Please, I’d like to record it today. I don’t want to be President.

“I intend to run for National Chairman in order to lead the Party to victory.”

I’d like to lead a campaign similar to the one we ran in 2014 to ensure that our father and leader (Buhari) transfers power to another APC member as President.

I am not afraid of anyone if I want to be President, but I do not want to be President but rather National Chairman.”

He stated that his goal is to turn the APC into a vehicle of greatness for Nigeria. To serve as a model for the Party in order to achieve a united Nigeria and collaborate with the government.

“I want to make a significant contribution to the transformation of Nigeria by using our party, the APC, as a tool to enthrone a better society for all and to make our people digitally literate.”

“I also intend to transform the Party into a political institution for all, particularly for the empowerment of youths and women for greater political participation, so that the Party will be the Party to beat in Africa for the next 50 years,” he said.

When asked about zoning and speculations that the APC may have zoned the national chairmanship to the north-central region, Sheriff stated that the Party has yet to finalize a zoning agreement.

The Chairmanship candidate claimed that some members of the Party are concerned about his chances of becoming National Chairman at the February 26 national convention.

As a result, they are spreading zoning myths in the media.

“The Party is run by a leadership. As of today, the Party leadership has not even formed a committee.

They had been meeting for the last three or four days to form a committee for everything zoning, elections, and so on. So the Party stood up and said, “We haven’t even sat yet.”

“There are no more questions.” As of today, many people, including Ali Sheriff, are vying for the position of chairman, even in Nigeria’s northeastern states.

Then I read in the newspaper a few days ago that Ali Sheriff is on his way out. ” As a result, it is clear that those who are writing this are terrified of the man known as Ali Sheriff.

They probably don’t want to go to the convention against me because Ali Sheriff is the target; they are afraid, period. There is no need to be concerned once the Party has provided you with those answers. Nigerians are not gullible. Nigerians are well-educated.

“Any newspaper that does a hatchet job is destroying their career and reputation,” he said.

When asked what would happen if the APC did not get it right at the convention, the former senator responded, “Well, my view is that we will get it right by the special grace of God.”

Because, as you can see, no single person can create a party. We suffered to form the Party that is now national, and collectively, we will get it right.”
