The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has obtained a warrant of arrest against former Governor Yahaya Bello.

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court granted the EFCC permission to arrest Bello ahead of his arraignment on April 18.

The warrant followed an earlier ruling by the Lokoja Division of the Kogi High Court, which restrained the EFCC from arresting Mr. Bello or infringing on his fundamental human rights.

EFCC operatives laid siege to his Abuja residence in an attempt to secure his arrest.

There was a standoff for several hours as the ex-governor resisted arrest until his protégé and successor, Governor Ahmed Ododo, allegedly helped him escape using an official convoy.

Recall that Bello had previously appealed to President Bola Tinubu to prevent his arrest based on the court order.

However, the situation remains tense as legal proceedings unfold.
