Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been released after 56 days in captivity. Tsiga was abducted on February 5, 2025, from his hometown in Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State.
According to sources, Tsiga was initially abducted alongside nine other individuals, sparking a wave of concern across the nation.
Despite a significant ransom payment of N180 million by his family, Tsiga remained in captivity for weeks, leading to a tense standoff with the kidnappers.
A family member revealed that after the ransom was handed over to the kidnappers, there was a week of silence before the family heard Tsiga’s voice on March 11, 2025.

The kidnappers reportedly called, demanding additional money, but the family chose not to comply with the further demands. Sources also noted that Tsiga was held in Zamfara State before being transported to Abuja.
According to a top military official, the retired general is currently in good health following his release.
 NYSC Member Regains Freedom After Family Pays N1.1m Ransom
A National Youth Service Corps member, Rofiat Lawal, who was kidnapped along the Benin-Ore Expressway on Tuesday, has regained her freedom after her family paid a ransom of N1.1 million.
Lawal was kidnapped while traveling from Benin, Edo State to Ibadan, Oyo State to resume at her place of primary assignment.
