A former member of the Federal House of Representatives, Oyewole Duro Babafemi Diya, has passed away.
Diya, who was in his early 60s, died on Friday, just a few days before his birthday on August 20, 2024. He had been battling a heart-related disease for several years, according to reports.
He represented Somolu Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber for two terms and was also a two-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Somolu State Constituency I.
Colleagues and associates have paid tribute to Diya, describing him as a dedicated public servant and a champion of the people.

Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Hon Kolade Alabi David, said Diya’s leadership extended beyond politics, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Somolu Local Government Chairman, Hon Abdul Hamed Salawu ‘Dullar’, described him as a perfect gentleman and a leader who exemplified humility, integrity, and dedication to his constituents.
Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, Hon Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that Diya was a rare gem and a true champion of the community, who will be greatly missed.
Osiyemi said:
“His kindness, wisdom, and integrity will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
