Moves aimed at consolidating APC dominance before 2025 congresses
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclosed that four sitting governors from opposition parties are in advanced discussions to defect to the ruling party before the end of 2025.
Speaking with reporters, Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, APC National Vice Chairman (South-East), identified the governors as those of Plateau, Taraba, Rivers (Siminalayi Fubara), and Abia (Alex Otti).
“It is a possibility that the Plateau governor will join us, likewise his Taraba counterpart. We are also looking forward to receiving Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State in our midst,” Arodiogbu said.

The party official stated that discussions have reached an advanced stage and predicted that the defections could take place in the coming weeks, particularly before the party’s 2025 congresses.
“These are all high possibilities. Most of these defections are expected before the end of this year. Once they happen, it will further confirm that the APC remains the dominant and most organised political platform in Nigeria,” he added.
Arodiogbu attributed the expected influx of political leaders to the APC’s reform-driven agenda and inclusive platform. He described the party as “a home for all progressives,” stressing that it is attracting leaders who seek stability and direction for Nigeria’s democracy.
He also highlighted the role of the party’s national chairman, noting the APC’s open-door policy and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The national chairman has made it clear that the APC is not closing its doors to anyone. We are reaching out to people of goodwill who believe in President Bola Tinubu’s vision,” he said.
