  • Emphasises peace pact as critical for governance and continuity in the state

  • Public reactions mixed as reconciliation raises questions on power dynamics

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has defended his recent reconciliation with former Governor Nyesom Wike, stating that it was a necessary step to restore peace and ensure governance stability in the oil-rich state.

In a public statement, Fubara acknowledged the troubled past with Wike but insisted that the former minister’s influence in his political journey remains undeniable.

“Nobody can take away the role my oga played… Nobody can wish away the risk he took,” Fubara said, referring to Wike’s role in his emergence as governor. He called on his loyalists to support the reconciliation move, describing it as “the right thing to do.”

While Fubara’s olive branch has been lauded by some as a mature move for the sake of governance, others question whether the reconciliation signifies capitulation or a strategic political reset under duress.
