Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has ordered all 23 local government chairmen to contest the forthcoming local government elections under the banner of the All People’s Party (APP), abandoning the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the unexpected shift comes as Fubara loses control of the PDP structure in Rivers State to former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The local government elections, scheduled for October 5, 2024, have ignited a fierce power struggle between the two leaders, with Wike maintaining a tight grip on the PDP machinery in the state.
By backing the APP, the Governor aims to counter Wike’s dominance and reassert his influence in Rivers State politics.
