Many shops and buildings are feared burnt following the explosion of a tanker conveying fuel in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The tanker laden with premium motor spirit burst into flames on Friday morning along the popular Upper Iweka junction of Onitsha.

The explosion has led to a heavy gridlock down along the busy Onitsha-Owerri Road in front of the Relief Market.

The fire started about 8.30 am and caused a long standstill of vehicles in and out of Onitsha.

As of the time of filing this report, Fire services from Anambra and Delta states have arrived at the scene and are battling to quench the fire amid a shortage of water.
