Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has been named among the final three contenders for the 2025 CAF Player of the Year award, as the Confederation of African Football unveiled the complete shortlist for this year’s honours, intensifying anticipation ahead of Africa’s biggest individual football celebration.

Victor Osimhen, who claimed the crown last year, is once again in the race for Africa’s most prestigious football award. The Nigerian striker now at Galatasaray will battle Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and PSG defender Achraf Hakimi for the 2025 CAF Player of the Year title. The announcement came on Sunday evening as CAF published the final cut across all categories.

Osimhen’s inclusion keeps Nigeria firmly in the spotlight, especially as he follows in the footsteps of Ademola Lookman, who last won the honour for the country. On the women’s side, Rasheedat Ajibade continues her rise as she also secured a place among the final three for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, where she faces Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy.
