Meanwhile, during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at Ivory Coast, Njitap had another clash with an Eto’o staff member.
The officials intervened quite quickly and dragged Njitap out of the scene of the incident before launching an ethics investigation leading to his suspension.
The ethics committee of Fecafoot handed Njitap ₣10 million (approximately £13,000) as a fine and, in addition, ban him from any football activities for five years.
For his part, his assistant, Daniel Blaise Ngos, has been suspended for two years and fined ₣5 million (approximately £6,500).
The contestation deadline for the two parties is ten days.
Njitap will carry the matter before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), hoping to reveal procedural flaws in the handling of the case and seek to lift or further reduce the ban.
He further argues that clearing his name is best served with a proper hearing.
While Njitap and Eto’o have since reconciled on a personal level, numerous questions remain on Fecafoot’s governance.
Njitap now stands to lose any prestige attached to his Premier League and Champions League achievements and maybe even his position as president of Synafoc.
Recall this Cameroon midfielder was not only a player of the Blues, but also one of the LaLiga giants, Real Madrid.
From your viewpoint, is this ban deserving of being sustained, or shall it be lifted?
