Gernot Rohr, the former coach of the Super Eagles, has been connected with the vacant coaching post of Ghana’s senior national team ahead of the World Cup playoffs with Nigeria.

The 68-year-old German coach has been unemployed since parting ways with the Nigeria Football Federation in December, just before the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Gernot is now considered one of the frontrunners to succeed Milovan Rajevac, who was fired by the Ghana Football Association following the Black Stars’ terrible performance at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Ghana was eliminated from the competition at the group stage after finishing last in Group F with just one point.
Rohr, who qualified the Eagles for both the AFCON and World Cup playoffs, says he’s ready to return to management but hasn’t decided which offer to take yet

“I haven’t made a choice yet,” the Franco-German told reporters, “but I will evaluate all of the suggestions I’ve received.”

“If it’s in the correct direction, I’ll look for new employment.”

When asked if Ghana was one of the suggestions he was considering, he said, “I won’t comment on it.”

According to a trusted source close to Rohr, he is highly interested in heading Ghana’s national squad ahead of the World Cup playoffs in March.

“Rohr is really interested in the position in Ghana,” a source informed ghanaweb.com.

“Ghana football has enormous potential, and his knowledge of the African game will assist him in steering the squad in the proper manner

“His knowledge of African football is extensive, particularly with regard to West African sides.”

In addition to Nigeria, he was in charge of Burkina Faso and Niger. In 2017, Rohr also played for Gabon. He possesses the ability to wield the Black Stars.

Ghana and Nigeria will compete in March for a spot in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
