Adamawa State Governor Umaru Fintiri has given the green light for the payment of the new national minimum wage of N70,000 to state and local government workers.

The development was shared by the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, after a meeting with the Fintiri on Tuesday.

According to Fashe, state government workers will start receiving the new minimum wage in August 2024, while local government workers will benefit from September 2024.

Fashe explained that the payment will be based on the consequential adjustment table used in 2019, pending the release of the new table from the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission (NSWIC).

In essence, the percentage increase will be applied to the current salary of each worker, based on the previous national minimum wage of N32,000.

He praised the Governor for prioritizing workers’ welfare by implementing the new minimum wage even before the national commission’s guidelines were released.
