Allies of former President Goodluck Jonathan have launched a political campaign urging former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race in favour of Jonathan.

The move, sources revealed, forms part of a broader opposition strategy to challenge President Bola Tinubu, who already enjoys the backing of the All Progressives Congress for a second term.

Sources confirmed that Jonathan’s political loyalists have been in talks with key opposition figures to pave the way for his candidacy.

Senior members of the Peoples Democratic Party, particularly from the North, are said to be mounting pressure on Jonathan to make a dramatic return to national politics.

A source close to Obi stressed that while Jonathan’s camp is eager for him to yield, the former Anambra governor remains committed to his political ambition and the promise he made to supporters during his 2023 campaign.

The development has triggered fresh debate in opposition circles, raising questions about whether Jonathan’s return could unify a divided opposition or deepen tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.
