The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, to death by hanging for culpable homicide.
Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme delivered the judgment on Monday, dismissing Nwachukwu’s no-case submission.
Nwachukwu was arraigned on June 3, 2022, on a 23-count charge filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, including culpable homicide, spousal battery, cruelty to children, and criminal intimidation.

The prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two of the deceased’s children, and tendered 25 exhibits.
In her judgment, Justice Nwosu-Iheme held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Despite pleas for leniency from Nwachukwu’s counsel, Reginald Nwali, the court sentenced him to death by hanging on Count 1 and additional prison sentences ranging from six months to three years on other counts. Nwachukwu was also fined a total of N700,000.
Osinachi Nwachukwu, a celebrated Nigerian gospel singer, passed away on April 8, 2022, at the age of 42. Her death sparked widespread outrage, with allegations of domestic violence against her husband. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the importance of addressing domestic violence and protecting victims’ rights.
