Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Friday confirmed he has authorized the recruitment of 500 additional officers into the Ondo State Security Network, better known as Amotekun. He announced the recruitment while inaugurating 130 new Justices of the Peace, the first appointment of its kind in Ondo State since 2008.

According to the governor, boosting Amotekun manpower and strengthening the state’s justice system remain top priorities of his administration.
“We are committed to fostering a society where justice prevails and every citizen feels safe, valued and heard,” Governor Aiyedatiwa said.
He explained that the new appointments fall under the ‘Order, Security and Rule of Law’ agenda, which guides his policies on safety and justice reforms. He also noted that more legal personnel have been employed and several judicial structures expanded, including a new Judiciary Complex currently nearing completion.
He reminded the newly appointed JPs that their duties demand fairness, discipline and high moral standing.
“The office of the Justice of the Peace is not only a title but a sacred responsibility,” he said. “Your influence will extend beyond your immediate community.”
The state Attorney-General, Kayode Ajulo, said the JP system remains one of the most important links between the state and the grassroots. He noted that the appointments were based on integrity and merit.

The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Olusegun Odusola, represented by Justice Akintan Osadebe, administered the oath of office and highlighted the legal roles JPs perform: mediating disputes, maintaining order, administering oaths and inspecting detention centres.
Speaking on behalf of the new appointees, Seinde Arogbofa expressed gratitude and pledged that they would work to promote justice, peace and community development.
The newly appointed JPs include the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, religious leaders, security heads and professionals from different sectors.
