Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has secured a decisive win at his polling unit in the ongoing 2024 Ondo State gubernatorial election.

At Polling Unit 5, Ugbo Ward 4, Obenla in Ilaje Local Government Area, Aiyedatiwa garnered 128 votes, comfortably defeating his main rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who managed just 3 votes.

Aiyedatiwa, who is seeking re-election, cast his vote early on Saturday morning and was confident about the transparency and peaceful nature of the electoral process.

“I’ve just cast my vote, and the process has been peaceful here. From the information I’ve received, this is a reflection of what is happening across the state,” he said shortly after voting.

While Aiyedatiwa celebrated his polling unit victory, he made it clear that he would respect the election results, regardless of the outcome. “I will accept defeat if the election results are transparent and peaceful. I believe INEC has done a good job ensuring a fair process, and I trust that this will be the case across the state,” Aiyedatiwa emphasized.

The Governor also commended the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their efforts in ensuring a smooth election.

“The election process has been free from violence, and voters are exercising their rights peacefully. The accreditation and voting procedures were transparent, and I went through the same process as every other voter,” he added.

In contrast, Aiyedatiwa’s main challenger, Ajayi, also cast his vote earlier in the day but could not replicate the same success at his polling unit. Despite his loss at the polling unit level, both candidates have expressed confidence in the electoral process, which will ultimately determine who succeeds Aiyedatiwa as Governor of Ondo State.
