The governor stated this during the 2021 Batch A, Stream 1 Passing Out Ceremony in Yenagoa, saying the National Youth Service Corps is the nation’s shining light and represents collective hope for a united, peaceful, and egalitarian society.
Diri, who was represented by Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson, Secretary to the State Government/Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board, commended the NYSC management for initiating the move to establish the NYSC Trust Fund.
“I commend the management of the NYSC for the unprecedented initiative to establish the NYSC Trust Fund,” he said.
This will, of course, allow the scheme to address issues such as dilapidated Orientation Camp facilities and access to funds by both serving and ex-corps members to start their own businesses following skill acquisition training, which will undoubtedly improve the scheme’s overall operations.”
“I urge members of the National Assembly representing Bayelsa State to strongly support the bill’s passage into law.”
“I stand here as the governor of Bayelsa State to declare my support for the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund,” Governor Diri said.
Earlier in her remarks, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Ojugo Elizabeth Iyowuna, thanked the governor, government, and people of Bayelsa state for their various contributions that contributed to the successful 2021 Batch A, Stream 1 service year.
She praised Governor Diri for facilitating the relocation of orientation activities to the Permanent Orientation Camp and the establishment of the Corps Lodge at Agudama, as well as the approval of Transport Back Home Allowance for corps members qualified to leave national service in the state.
