Gov Radda Signs N897.86bn Katsina Budget Into Law, Retains 81% Capital Spending

Katsina State Governor, Dr Dikko Umar Radda, has given his final approval to the 2026 state budget, maintaining the total allocation at N897.86 billion. The budget, titled Building Your Future III, was assented to on Wednesday during a brief ceremony held at the Government House.

The governor initially presented the budget proposal to the Katsina State House of Assembly on November 4, and lawmakers passed it within three weeks. The entire figure remained unchanged from what was originally submitted, with 18 percent allocated to recurrent spending and 81 percent earmarked for capital projects.

Governor Radda explained that the budget was compiled after wide consultation with residents across the state. According to him, more than 70,000 citizens from 361 wards participated in town hall meetings to express the development areas they wanted government to prioritise.

He praised lawmakers for their swift passage of the bill and commended their collaboration with the executive arm. Radda urged them to continue playing their oversight role, monitoring and ensuring that all budgeted projects are executed as planned.

On his part, Speaker of the House, Hon. Nasiru Yahaya, said the Assembly carefully reviewed the spending plan over a three-week period. He added that the House decided to approve the exact proposal sent by the executive, praying for successful implementation for the benefit of the people.

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Government has announced a major water conservation initiative worth N14.05 billion in Faskari Local Government Area. The project is being executed in partnership with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) programme.

Governor Radda said the project is key to tackling climate change, protecting vulnerable communities, restoring degraded land, expanding water access, and boosting food production.
