Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State will soon return to Nigeria, according to his wife, Mrs. Betty Anyangun.

Akeredolu had been on leave for health reasons after contracting an undisclosed illness that left him unable to carry out his duties as governor.

The Governor was initially reluctant to take sick leave but was eventually outraged after strong pressure from opposition parties in the state brought public attention to the governor’s deteriorating health.

Recall that in a letter dated June 13, 2023, and sent to the Ondo state House of Assembly the Governor initially took 21 days of medical leave, which has since been extended.

The Governor then delegated powers to the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa to serve as governor until he returned from vacation.

A source close to him confirmed that he has recovered after undergoing multiple surgeries abroad.

It was said that there since then, he has also received visitors, including Senator Niyi Adegbonmire.

Adegbonmire also reported that the Governor’s health has improved.

The development was disclosed by Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, a friend of the governor’s wife.

Iwchukwu said on Monday that Anyaung admitted the worst was over a few days ago, adding that the governor would return to Nigeria as soon as he had a successful medical procedure in Germany.
