A group under the aegis of APC Integrity Group has called for Governor Douye Diri to resign from office.

This is as the group alleged that the sum of N30 billion was allocated to Bayelsa State from the federation account for September 2022.

In a statement on Tuesday by its Chairman, Mr Fred Ayabowei, the group asserted that the state’s allocation has been on a steady increase for the past ten months, stressing that the Governor has failed to use the funds to develop the state.

The group added that the increase in allocation was for the development of infrastructure and human capital in the state, but nothing was done yet.

The statement accused Diri of saving the allocated funds for his re-election.

The statement read in part:

Bayelsa State has produced governors in the past before. None of his predecessors was lucky enough to have such an inflow of funds as what we are getting today.

“Is the governor servicing high-profile political elites? Or is it a lack of political will to develop the state?

“Why the delay in the senatorial roads, Isaac Boro way and the rest roads? Why has he not done anything on the Tower of Shame?

“From all indices, the governor is doing little to save enough for his re-election which we see as a pipe dream. It’s the only excuse for the snail speed development evident in Yenagoa and across the state.

“Diri should learn from other governors who are doing so much with little allocations.

“He should borrow a leaf from Chief Timipre Sylva who despite the endless discrimination of the central government at the time transformed Bayelsa and made the local economy thrive.”

The APC group also called on Diri to resign “since he can’t develop Bayelsa rapidly with the huge allocations.”

It was gathered that the three tiers of government shared between them a total of N673.1b for September 2022.

They federal government got N259.641b, the states N222.949b, and the local government councils received N164.247b.
