Gunmen have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bagudu, in his hometown, Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attackers reportedly invaded the community late Friday, firing gunshots indiscriminately before whisking the lawmaker away.

Eyewitnesses said the deputy speaker was taken shortly after concluding his prayers and leaving the mosque for his residence.

In a statement signed by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, the abduction was confirmed on Friday night.

Security sources said operatives have since been deployed to the area to track down the assailants and secure the lawmaker’s release.

However, efforts to obtain further clarification from the Kebbi State Police Command were unsuccessful as of press time.

Residents of Bagudu town have reportedly been gripped by tension following the incident, with several calling for urgent government action to strengthen community security.

As of the time of filing this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction.
