At least six passengers, including the driver, were abducted in the early hours of Friday after gunmen attacked a fully loaded mini bus along the Nsukka–Adani axis in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The vehicle, reportedly operated by the Enugu State Transport Company (ENTRACO), was heading toward its destination when it was stopped by armed men near Adani community, a section of the road residents say has become notorious for criminal attacks.

According to sources who spoke with Sahara Reporters, the attackers emerged suddenly from the bush, blocked the road, and forced the bus to a halt.
“They blocked the road and intercepted the vehicle. Some passengers managed to escape into the bush, but six of them, including the driver, were taken away,” a source said.
The driver of the bus was identified as Ignatius Ewenike. Three passengers reportedly escaped during the chaos, while the remaining victims were marched into the nearby forest.

A community leader in Adani, who requested anonymity, confirmed the incident and blamed the abduction on early-morning travel, warning that the road is unsafe at such hours.
“That road is very dangerous, especially early in the morning,” he said. “The driver was warned to wait until the local vigilante group resumed duty, but he ignored the advice.”
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no contact from the abductors, and no ransom demand has been made known to the families of the victims.
Residents along the Nsukka–Adani Road have renewed calls for a permanent security presence, stressing that the route is vital to daily movement and trade.
“Security should not be withdrawn at any time,” the community leader added. “People use this road every day, and lives are at risk.”
Efforts to get an official reaction from the Enugu State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to the police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, were not returned as of press time.
The incident comes amid growing concern over kidnapping and violent crimes in parts of Enugu State, despite recent assurances by authorities.
Earlier this month, Governor Peter Mbah unveiled new security drones and patrol vehicles, promising improved surveillance and faster response to criminal activities across the state.
