Gunmen have kidnapped a veterinary doctor, Dr Ifeanyi Ogbu, and his three children in Kungabokun, a remote community on the boundary between the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Niger State.

The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday when the attackers forced their way into the victim’s home through a window and whisked him and the children away to an undisclosed location.

Police, Vigilantes Comb Forests

Security analyst Mr Zagazola Makama, who reported the development on Friday, said operatives from Byazhin Division, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and local vigilantes immediately moved into the area to begin search operations.

“The team is currently combing surrounding bushes and hills with the aim of rescuing the victims and apprehending the suspects,” sources confirmed.

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has also opened a probe, assuring residents that all efforts are being made to secure the victims’ release.

Troops Rescue Hostages in Borno

In a separate operation, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai rescued two hostages and killed a Boko Haram fighter in Borno State.

According to Mr Makama, the October 1 mission was conducted by troops of the 222 Battalion (Main) with volunteer fighters on motorcycles in the villages of Mittiri, Loskuri, Tamsu Ngamdu, and Wonori.

During the raid, one insurgent was neutralised, two captives were freed, and a motorcycle belonging to the terrorists was recovered.
